Abstract

Objective: To determine how reggaeton songs are associated whith the gender-based violence, according to the perception of students at the José Faustino Sánchez Carrión National University in Huacho (Peru). Material and methods: The type of research was basic, non-experimental and cross-sectional; The sample consisted of 371 students from different professional careers at the University. A survey technique and an instrument with closed questions and a Likert scale were used; Cronbach's Alpha value was used to measure the reliability of this instrument; To determine the degree of association between students' perception of reggaeton music and gender-based violence, Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient was used. Results: A correlation of .92 (p< .05) was found for students' perception that reggaeton songs have a significant influence on gender-based violence, also was found that emotions influence physical violence, attitudes influence psychological violence, and sexist language has an impact on sexual violence among university students. Conclusion: There is an influence of reggaeton songs towards gender violence in students at Jose Faustino Sanchez Carrion National University.
