Abstract

A case of sudden death in a 100-day-old piglet is presented. The most relevant findings during necropsy included: an acute gastric ulcer (5 x 7 cm) adjacent to the cardia, the presence of digested hemorrhagic content (melena) in the gastrointestinal tract, and pulmonary lesions consistent with extensive pneumonia. This case illustrates the fatal presentation of gastric ulcer disease in pigs, frequently associated with stress factors and complicated by co-infections.
