Effect of organic minerals and vitamins fat soluble on reproductive efficiency in Holstein heifers

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of organic minerals and fat-soluble vitamins on reproductive efficiency in Holstein heifers. Methodology: Thirty heifers of 18.6 ± 2.4 months of age and 394 ± 37 kg body weight were randomly distributed in two groups of fifteen animals each. One of the groups received a subcutaneous supplement providing 20 mg of Zn, 10 mg of Cu, 2.5 mg of Se, 70 mg of vitamin E and 28,900 IU of vitamin A per mL. The application was 1 mL per 50 kg of body weight, and the dose was repeated 30 days after the first application. Pregnancy detection was performed 35 days after the first or second insemination. Estrus presentation, conception rate, pregnancy rate and number of services per conception were evaluated. Data were analyzed using the pro test function ratio test of R software. Results: No significant differences (p>0.05) were found for heat presentation (72.7 and 60%), conception rate (68.75 and 53.37%), pregnancy rate (50 and 32%) and services per conception (1.45 and 1.87) between heifers, with and without application respectively. Conclusions: Supplementation with organic minerals and fat-soluble vitamins did not improve reproductive efficiency in Holstein heifers.
