Objective: To evaluate the effect of hydrolyzed porcine mucous inclusion (MPH) in the initial diet (0 to 10 days) on productive performance in broiler chickens. Methodology: A conventional corn and soybean cake diet was prepared as a control treatment. In the experimental diets, MPH was added at 2, 4 and 6% levels, keeping energy, protein and essential amino acids constant. For the growing and finishing stages, the same type of feed was given to all treatments. The birds were randomly distributed in 20 experimental units (4 treatments with 5 replicates each). Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and the Kruskall-Wallis test. Results: Significant differences were found in body weight at 10 and 21 days of age (p<0.05), with higher weights in the group treated with 6% MPH. However, no significant differences were observed at 42 days of age in body weight, feed intake and feed conversion (p>0.05). Leg performance was higher in the 6% MPH inclusion group, although it was similar to the control. Conclusions: The inclusion of MPH in the starter diet improved broiler body weight for up to 21 days and increased leg performance.Downloads
